Reflections in a thong

I went to the beach this weekend and something very simple caught my attention: the sea doesn't try to impress anyone. It is just there, calm some days and rough others, but it remains the sea. I thought that we often do the opposite, trying to prove all the time that we are worth something.

I think one of the things that most affects self-esteem is comparing ourselves. There is always someone with more money, a better body, more followers, or a life that seems more interesting. The problem is that when you get used to comparing yourself, you never win, because there will always be someone who seems to be doing better.

Sitting watching the waves, I also thought that sometimes we are too hard on ourselves. A mistake, a bad streak, or a goal that didn't go as we expected can make us feel that we are not enough. But a bad week does not define a person, just as a single wave does not define the sea.

In the end, I left the beach with a simple idea: self-esteem is not believing you are better than others. It is recognizing that you have value even when not everything is going perfectly. Because life has its ups and downs for everyone, and learning to get along with yourself makes those changes much easier to bear.
